2015 emerging talent 'Sport' Winner danielle mckenzie to world champs

Danielle McKenzie ~

My 2015-16 Surf Lifesaving season has come to an end so I thought I would take the opportunity to thank you for the emerging talent award I received in 2015 and update you on my results.

The award allowed me to travel to and from Australia and train and live in Australia for periods of time during my surf lifesaving season. I was able to compete in an Australian league of 8 races around the country. I won the overall female surf ski series and was joint winner of the board series.  I also competed in my second year of the Australian Nutrigrain Ironwoman series and am awaiting on confirmation of my requalification for the 2016-17 season once the  qualification criteria has been decided.

The experience I gained and improvements during the season through the use of my award money culminated in me winning 9 NZ National medals and 2 Australian medals. I have this week been named in the NZ Surf Life Saving team to compete at the World champs in the Netherlands and have also been named in my Australian club World Champs team to compete in the club world champs.

Although my current season has ended I will now take a couple of weeks off then will be back racing in the World paddleboard trial in June and training for the September World Champs.

Please pass on my thanks to the North Harbour Club for my award. I felt privileged to be awarded this with the incredible talent of other North Shore athletes.

Regards

Danielle McKenzie
